If you only learn one Hand Weaving stitch, Peyote stitch is the one to learn. A popular form of hand weaving that produces a brick work pattern, it is used to create bracelets, necklaces, encase cabochons, and in the more advanced forms, beaded boxes and sculptures. Thumbing through beading magazines and books you will generally see one or more projects that incorporate peyote stitch. In this class we will create a Flat Even Count Peyote band which may be finished as either a bracelet or bookmark. These will work up easily, once you know how, and make great gifts. This class is a pre-requisite for the Sculpted Peyote Bracelet offered later this quarter.

The finished piece feels like fine beaded fabric. Johanna Bierwirth shares her years of experience with the loom and has the tips and tricks to make your looming experience most enjoyable. She will also share a method of weaving in loose thread ends that drastically reduces finishing time. In this day long class you will learn weaving basics by creating a beautiful Two Tone bracelet. Johanna will get you set up, loom warped and on your weaving way. If you like stitching, you'll love the ancient and elegant art of loom bead weaving. The looms, available here, are designed by Johanna, handmade here in Maine of solid wood and are far easier to use than more expensive varieties found elsewhere.
