Hi Everyone!

Greetings Everyone!

Now that school is out for the summer, it's time for mom to do a little crafting and playing herself. And since Grammy doesn't have anymore (baseball, basketball, football, etc.) games to attend, she can relax on the big old porch with a beading tray and glass of lemonade (or beverage of choice). The shop is loaded with all manner of beads, supplies and tools to aid you in making the very best creations. Looking to try something new? Classes abound, too. Some that you've missed, some new! There are still a couple of spots intentionally left open, so if there is a class or technique you'd like to try, let me know. Many classes do fill early, so don't wait to register. As an added incentive to register early, reserve your seat in a class (or multiple) by July 3rd and receive a voucher for 20% off your materials for those classes. The best way to register is stop in and see the projects up close and personal, then you can browse the shop to get an idea of what you'd like to use for materials. Or, you can register by phone and place a deposit to hold your seat with a credit or debit card.

The usual friendly faces are back to give you help and instruction. Mig Lemire with her expertise and talent in wire working, Odin Oxthorn with a myriad of hand woven bead stitch projects, Marie Jacques handles basic beading, freeform peyote as well as a new hand stitched piece, Sue Daigle has a cleaver new leather wrap bracelet with super duos, Robin Stuart is back with her gorgeous Beaded Cabochons and Connie Foster, back from Florida for the summer has a lovely new Super Duo Earring with a twist a beautiful new bracelet and will reprise a few of her popular bracelets from past seasons for those who may have missed them.

We will be getting a jump on Christmas items this summer, but instead of loading them all into a "Christmas in July" we're spreading them out a bit with an ornament project a month. If it works well, perhaps we'll keep it going through the end of the year and beyond. I've complied with a couple of requests for the summer.

Now, peruse the list and see what speaks to you. Whatever you choose, remember, beading classes offer a way to stimulate your creativity. Working with your hands in a creative way relaxes and calms your mind and spirit. You get to meet and make new friends who enjoy the same things you do. And, the biggest bonus, we always have loads of fun!

And, I just want to Thank You for your support and patronage. Small businesses like this one survive only by the continued support and loyalty of its customers. I do appreciate each and every one of you who continue to walk through the door. The internet may seem easier in ways, but as many of you have told me, nothing compares to being able to see and touch, up close and personally. It's also helpful having a real live person to talk to for opinions and advise and help. And I'm happy to be here for you!

See you ALL soon and,

Happy Beading!

Linda

I love this bracelet. And I love working with Super Duo beads. The criss -cross pattern of this piece gives it a basket weave effect that is so intriguing. The wider cuff styles are so popular now, too. Comfortably fitted to the wrist. Won't get in the way on the computer or catch on clothes. This will be a popular class, so don't wait to book your seat.

YOU ASKED FOR IT! GOTHIC ARCHES CHOKER: WEDNESDAY, JULY 29, 6-8 P.M., W/LINDA, FEE: $20, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

I have had several requests for this piece. It's been quite a while since I offered it, so enjoy! This deceptively simple design by Margaret Duffy was first seen in the February 2007 issue of Bead and Button magazine. It works up into a such a lovely piece whether you use pearls, crystals or gemstones for your choice of materials. I've made several of these for wedding and prom wear in crystals, but it's equally suitable for an evening out to dinner or in the neckline of a business suit in pearls. It's a great piece if you are new to hand weaving and a wonderfully easy, elegant piece no matter your skill level. Size 11 seed beads and 4mm pearls or crystals are all you need to get you going.

NEW! SHIBORI PENDANT: SATURDAY AUGUST 1, 10:30-12:30, W/ODIN, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL:

This is the hot new item to create this summer. SHIBORI is an ancient Japanese technique of dying and folding silk cloth to get beautiful shapes and patterns. Today, shibori ribbon is purchased already dyed and folded so we can get to the fun part faster. The fun part being, working a bit of the fabric into an exquisite pendant or other jewelry item. Odin (the master of all things to do with Japanese beading) will walk you through the process of creating your own, unique SHIBORI PENDANT. To see this one in person reminds me of the sky at midnight in a remote location where the only lights are from the heavens. Come see it in person, you'll know what I mean. Just a couple of ideas.

COSMIC BEADS: SATURDAY, AUGUST 1, 1-3 P.M., W/ ODIN, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL:

We're all in love with SUPER DUO beads! And for those of us who LOVE working with beads, what could be more fun than making beads out of other beads! Odin has created the fabulous COSMIC BEAD using the new duos, crystal bicones and seed beads and it's just Out of the World, beautiful. Two variations on this bead give you versatility and texture. Make a bunch and string them into necklaces, bracelets and earrings. They are just too, much fun to make and wear.

BEADER'S NIGHT OUT: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5, 6-8 P.M., NO FEE

just a time to gather together around the beading table and explore our favorite beading project. Seating is limited so call to reserve your seat.

BASIC ODD COUNT FLAT PEYOTE BRACELET/BOOKMARK: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12, 6-8 P.M., W/LINDA, FEE: $20, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

Have you mastered Even Count Peyote Stitch and are a bit intimidated by Odd Count? Or just new to Peyote Stitch altogether? This class is just for you. We've spent a lot of time in past classes learning Even Count Peyote Stitch, which is the most commonly used form. There are times, however when an odd count is needed or recommended to achieve a certain result. Although Odd Count Peyote is not difficult, there is an odd little turn around to get your stitching going in the right direction. This turn can sometimes seem a bit intimidating to a new beader (and even the more experienced). Having someone to show you the way of it can be a big help. This class will set you up for any of the other peyote stitch classes offered this quarter, for example "Free Form", or in the future. Flat Even Count will also be discussed. Register early!

NEW! MAGATAMA SWIRL EARRINGS: SATURDAY AUGUST 15, 10:30-12:30, W/ CONNIE FOSTER, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE (Some experience in hand weaving recommended.)

Here's a new item that has everyone talking. It's a beautiful little swirl of an earring. A variety of bead sizes and shapes create the shape. It' fun and interesting to make and to wear. Lots of oohs and aahs with these.

YOU ASKED FOR IT! RUFFLED PEYOTE BRACELET: SATURDAY, AUGUST 15, 1-3 P.M., W/CONNIE FOSTER, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE (KNOWLEDGE OF PEYOTE STITCH REQUIRED)

When Connie first wore this bracelet in to the shop there were audible gasps from all present. Being avid beaders, always in search of a new way to turn a bead stitch, this one caught everyone's eye. It's a lovely little ruffled bracelet that is perfectly suited for bare summer wrists. A real show stopper, you'll get oohs and aahs everywhere you go. Easy to stitch with knowledge of basic peyote, you'll be able to stitch up dozens to give to all your family and friends. Because they'll all want one!

YOU ASKED FOR IT! BUTTERFLY BRACELET: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19, 6-8 P.M., W/LINDA, FEE: $20, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

Dainty, delicate and light as a breeze, this lovely little bracelet is sure to be one of your most favorite pieces. Everyone who sees it will want one too. But that's OK. Once you learn how easy it is to put together, you'll be making dozens for birthday and holiday giving. Whether you're eight or eighty, you'll love wearing this emblem of summer. This class fills fast so call and reserve your seat today. See it in person!

YOU ASKED FOR IT! FREEFORM PEYOTE: SATURDAY AUGUST 22, 2015, 10:30-12:30, W/MARIE JACQUES, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE (Knowledge of Basic Peyote Stitch required)

YOU ASKED FOR IT! This class was such a hit last quarter, we've been asked to have it again. Folks who have taken it previously have been having such fun exploring the endless possibilities for combining seed and novelty beads into unique art jewelry! You've marveled at the seemingly random beauty of Freeform Peyote stitch. How do they do it? Stitching seems to branch off every which way with different size beads interjected everywhere? What may seem random usually does have a plan (of sorts). Marie will show you how to jumpstart your creativity. You'll start with a thin band and build from there. Where will your imagination take you? These are just a sampling of where your imagination may go. Bring all your odd beads and see how to bring them all together beautifully!

NEW! STRETCH BRACELET ON A LOOM: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26, **5:30 PM-8 PM**, W/LINDA, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

As popular as the Leather Wrap Bracelet is, it was certain that before long it would be done with Super Duo beads. And here is a wonderful variation. I love how these beads worked in peyote, give a lovely look of brick work. Fun to make and a perfect summer accent!

This class, previously offered, was such a big hit. Several who couldn't make it have requested a repeat and several who saw it in the shop also made a request. This is a good intro to using Duo beads. And these earrings are gorgeous! And they are so, very easy to make with just a little hand weaving experience. Using Super Duos, seed beads, bicone crystals and Rivolis, these work up super quick! I completed both earring in under an hour! I've worked patterns that rendered similar results that took three times longer or more. And, well, they're stunning! Join me for a fun evening of creating "SUPER" easy jewelry!

It's wonderful fun to get creative with the many combinations of stones that you can come up with. The possibilities are endless. (This is a standalone class. You do not need to have taken Wire Sculpting to accomplish this technique. This technique will spring board you into many other wire wrapped pieces).

This is an heirloom piece that will be handed down for generations, gaining value (sentimental and monetary) with each passing year. In the first class, we'll begin making the netted cover. The second class we'll secure it over the glass ball and systematically add the crystal drops. Done in Czech fire polished crystals, this piece is not as complicated as it looks. It is basic netting with embellishments and ideal for a beader who is new to hand weaving. They are fun to do as well. YOU ASKED FOR IT! VICTORIAN LACE CHOKER: by designer Bobbie Bongard TWO PART CLASS: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 AND OCTOBER 1, 6-8 P.M., W/LINDA, FEE: $40

I've not offered this class in a while and have had several people express interest in learning the technique. So... after a long wait, here it is. The first time I saw this lacy piece, I fell in love. It has an old fashioned Victorian appeal, but is an elegant dress up piece for today. Whether you do it up in pearls or crystals, pastels for spring (a fabulous bridal piece) or metallic for fall, it's guaranteed to turn heads. Folks will ask if it's vintage. This is a two part class. In the first class you will create the base rows, work the body at home and complete the piece in the second class It's truly unique.
