Hi Everyone!

Thank you to everyone who read the recent email about my putting the Shop up for SALE. To be clear, the shop is NOT CLOSING and will remain operating as usual until the right person(s) is found. This shop and all of you mean a great deal to me and I wouldn't just abandon my "baby". There has already been interest expressed, so if you are seriously looking to "take your passion and make it happen" then come talk to me!

Much is happening, as always here in the shop and DOWNTOWN! A small group of us are working together on a fundraising project called "RIVER OF TREES" but everyone is welcome to join in. Many Augusta merchants are joining forces to put on a spectacular event of decorated Christmas Trees. The event will be held in the old COLONIAL THEATER and will (in part) go toward renovation of that building. We are planning "our tree" to be a spectacular display of hand beaded ornaments. It would be too large a project for one person to tackle, but with many hands and a couple of donated items per person, we will be decked out in high, glistening style. We will meet at the first Beader's Night Out on September 7th, to organize a bit more, and begin our holiday beading. Anyone is welcome to join. Just let me know you are coming as space is limited.

As for the rest of the schedule, there are a lot of exciting classes to get you back in the groove after the long hot summer. Now that the kids are safely situated back in class, maybe it's time for MOM to get scholastic herself! I'm not talking algebra, but BEADING!! There are basics to brush you up, dozens of uses for Duos, Christmas on a Loom, new ways to braid, Autumn in copper, holiday dazzle and little beaded boxes to keep it all in!! Interest peaked? Take a look below at all the autumn spender! You will also want to stop by and wish Connie Foster a happy winter down south, (her last class will be October 1st) and welcome back Lori Holt after a long summer away. All the regulars are here! Welcome back Mig Lemire (wait till you see the copper leaf pendant), Sue Daigle with a new flat Japanese Braid, Marie Jacques here to help another group discover the joys of Freeform Peyote and Johanna Bierwirth with another beautiful piece on a loom.

Call and schedule early. Classes are sure to fill fast as always.

An added bonus for scheduling early - register by Saturday, September 10th and receive 15% off materials for those classes!!

As an added note, I'd just like to say what fun I've had working on this schedule. I love seeing what we have coming up and anticipating the excitement you all feel when you see the projects. I'd like to thank, profusely, all of the instructors who work so hard to come up with the unique classes and projects you see. Their talents and dedication to beading in general and this shop in particular, should be recognized and praised. I am humbled by the talent that surrounds me and the support I have received over all the years I have been here. Thank You!

See you soon and,
Happy Beading!
Linda

The first in the WireWorks series taught by Maine Artist Mig Lemire of Scarborough, this is our version of Wire 101. In this free form wrapping style, you'll learn how to fashion elegant wire sculpture around a flat stone, beach glass or dichroic glass piece. You'll be amazed at how easy it is to create, and how many compliments you'll receive on your craftsmanship. "Falling" in love with this beautiful harbinger of the season. YOU HAVE GOT TO COME SEE THIS IN PERSON!! I just about flipped when it arrived! Connie will be gone soon and there won't be another chance before next summer!!

This is a crafty little bracelet created by Deb Wear-Finkle and works up fast and easy. It's a variation on herringbone stitch and fun to make. I love the organic simplicity of the piece in Tilas and seed beads. (can also be done in Czech mate tile beads) Great casual piece with jeans, for business or bling it up for dress wear.

WIREWORKS: BORDER WRAP, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8, 10:00 P.M., W/MIG LEMIRE, FEE: $55, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

If you loved the Wire Sculpting class with Mig, you'll love Border Wrap. The second in the WIREWORKS series, this class teaches you how to showcase a cabochon or other flat backed stone by incasing the edges in a neatly bound wire wrap. You'll learn to create exquisite sterling, silver filled or gold filled border wrapped slides and pendants. (They look great in copper, too.) Bring your own stones or pick from our beautiful selections. (This is a standalone class. You do not need to have taken Wire Sculpting to accomplish this technique. This technique will spring board you into many other wire wrapped pieces).

BEADING BASICS: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12, 6:00 P.M., W/LINDA, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

You've been wanting to take up beading. It looks like so much fun and well, you love jewelry, right! RIGHT! Don't wait another year, month, week or day to begin having the most fun you can have (legally) with other gals who love it, too. Some of my best times have been sitting around with friends creating MAGIC with BEADS! Your journey begins with this class! Here the art of beading will be demystified. You'll learn about all the tools, components, (what findings are), and about composition and creating your own wearable art! Don't delay, call today! You'll wonder why you waited so long.

FREEFORM PEYOTE: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15, 10:30 A.M., W/MARIE JACQUES, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE (Experience with basic peyote stitch mandatory)

YOU ASKED FOR IT! This class was such a hit last quarter, we've been asked to have it again. Folks who have taken it previously have been having such fun exploring the endless possibilities for combining seed and novelty beads into unique art jewelry! You've marveled at the seemingly random beauty of Freeform Peyote stitch. How do they do it? Stitching seems to branch off every which way with different size beads interjected everywhere? What may seem random usually does have a plan (of sorts). Marie will show you how to jumpstart your creativity. You'll start with a thin band and build from there. Where will your imagination take you? This is just a sample of where your imagination may go. Bring all your odd beads and see how to bring them all together beautifully!

BEADED BOXES: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19 AND 26, 6:00 P.M., W/LINDA, FEE: $50 ($40 if book "Little Beaded Boxes" has been purchased here at this shop), SKILL LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE (Must have experience with basic peyote.)

Peyote lovers!! Here's a new project to get excited about! I've offered a class in Beaded Boxes quite a while ago. I've been asked (for a while) to have another. Different shape than before. So, at last, here is our next BEADED BOX project. This two part class is to cover technique. Much of the piece will be accomplished at home.

FLAT KUMIHIMO BRACELET: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22, NOON, W/SUE DAIGLE, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE (Experience with basic Kumihimo recommended)

Feeling pretty proficient in basic Kumihimo. Made enough necklaces to outfit all of Kennebec County? Twice? Love the technique and ready for something new and different? Then try this beautiful bracelet in a flat braid with beaded edge. I just love learning twists on techniques I already know. It's like getting a new scarf to wear with that favorite dress. New, but still comfortable. Call to register today! .
