Hi Everyone!

Happy Spring Everyone!!

Well as far as the calendar is concerned, anyway. Puxatawny Phil had it right this year 'cause winter is certainly taking its sweet time clearing out of Maine. But, we can create our own beautiful colors and flowers and pretty shiny things to brighten our days. When spring finally does decide to make an appearance we'll be ready to burst forth in our own sparkling splendor! Some old favorites are making an encore by popular demand and there are plenty of exciting new pieces and techniques to discover. In fact, I asked you to help me create the kind of schedule that you wanted, by telling me what classes you might have missed and would like to take or techniques that you'd like to learn. I heard you and have provided (most) of what you asked for. While perusing the schedule you will see YOU ASKED FOR IT! at the beginning of a class that has been requested by YOU! I've also noted when a project is new to the schedule.

Our regular instructors all have their specialty offerings with some fun new items to try. Mig has a beautiful new pendant "Window to the Soul" in April, and will comply with a few requests previously offered such as Bollywood Baby and a Hammered Cuff. Marie Jacques, is back with a few requests for some of our favorite Russian stitches. And of course, Freeform Peyote! This is such a popular class. It's so freeing to be able to just bead your own way! We've requests for Knots! So, Sue Daigle is reprising the Shambala Bracelet and others. Connie Foster is back with more Patterned Peyote. Odin has been designing up a storm! She's starting off with another new pendant featuring Rivolis and Super Duos, another transitional bracelet incorporating a variation on herringbone stitch and a new herringbone twist! I'll be reprising some springy favorites with crystals and a pretty new piece called Kumodo stitch.

All in all it's a great season for catching up on projects you've been meaning to take and learning a few new tricks! So, scroll on down and see what you've been missing.

Oh, BIG NEWS! Call or stop in and register for you classes by April 4th and receive a voucher for 20% off your materials for the classes you've registered for.

Thank you for the feedback, hope you enjoy your Spring Class Schedule. Please continue to keep me posted as to your preferences

See you ALL soon and,

Happy Beading!

Linda

HERRINGBONE CUFF BRACELET: SATURDAY, APRIL 4, 1-3, W/ODIN, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE (Some experience with hand weaving recommended)

YOU ASKED FOR IT! Have a newfound love of herringbone stitch? Here's a wonderful bracelet by Odin to give you lots more to get excited about. Summer is a great time to show off your best bracelets. They're not all covered up with sleeves and sweaters. I just love the wider cuffs for summer wear. They are sporty and casual and fun. This classic style uses delicas and pearls, or crystals or gemstones. Whatever you choose, you can't go wrong with this beautiful, smart piece.

RUSSIAN NET BRACELET: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 8, 6-8 P.M., W/ MARIE JACQUES, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE (Some experience with hand weaving recommended)

YOU ASKED FOR IT! This is one of the most beautiful (and popular) stitches around for a cuff and take half the time to create than other netted bracelets I've tried. In this one the embellishment is added as you go rather than added after. And it's just stunning when completed! I love this one in a springy mix of colors, but yours will be uniquely you in the colors you choose!

WIREWORKS: WIRE SCULPTING: SATURDAY, APRIL 11, 10:30-12:30, W/MIG LEMIRE: FEE: $55, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

The first in the WireWorks series taught by Maine Artist Mig Lemire of Scarborough, this is our version of Wire 101. In this free form wrapping style, you'll learn how to fashion elegant wire sculpture around a flat stone, beach glass or dichroic glass piece. You'll be amazed at how easy it is to create, and how many compliments you'll receive on your craftsmanship. This stunning art form is so much easier than it looks, you'll wonder why you waited so long to take the class. If you've been wanting to get started with wire, NOW IS THE TIME!

WIREWORKS: WINDOW TO THE SOUL: SATURDAY, APRIL 11, 1-3, W/MIG LEMIRE, FEE: $55, SKILL LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE (Experience with wire working recommended)

NEW! Leave it to Mig to offer another inspired piece. If you have experience working with wire wrapping, you'll love creating this beautiful pendant with one unique, favorite bead to enhance it! If you've done the Caged Pendant, Woven or Arrows bracelet, this will be a cinch! I know that I want one! What an attention getter.

BEADING BASICS: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 6-8 P.M., W/ MARIE JACQUES: FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

This class is a must for the beginning bead enthusiast or for anyone interested in fine-tuning their beading skills. These techniques will spring you forth into the world of beading with the confidence it takes to create your own designs! Sample by Debbie Fischer

ST. PETERSBURG CHAIN: SATURDAY APRIL 18, 10:30-12:30, W/MARIE JACQUES, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE (Some experience in hand woven beading recommended)

YOU ASKED FOR IT! If you've done enough square stitch, peyote stitch and right-angle weave and want to step up to the next level, learn ST. PETERSBURG CHAIN and have an extraordinary bracelet when you are done. This is a fun stitch and not difficult once you get into the rhythm of the progression. And you can do it any way you like. Earthy and organic or Bling it on!

RUSSIAN SPIRAL: SATURDAY, APRIL 18, 1-3 P.M., W/MARIE JACQUES, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE (Some experience in hand weaving recommended)

Beaded spirals are some of the prettiest beaded projects around. They are easy and elegant for necklaces, bracelets, bag straps and can be worked up in an endless variety of colors and patterns. The Russian Spiral can be worked in any variation of beads but this one done in seed and bugle beads has such an interesting helix effect. It's soft and supple and feels wonderful in your hands and against your skin. It's a simple technique and works up quickly. Come see for yourself how a woven tube of beads can be.

ODD COUNT PEYOTE: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22, W/ LINDA, FEE: $20, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

YOU ASKED FOR IT! Have you mastered Even Count Peyote Stitch and are a bit intimidated by Odd Count? Or just new to Peyote Stitch altogether? This class is just for you. We've spent a lot of time in past classes learning Even Count Peyote Stitch, which is the most commonly used form. There are times, however when an odd count is needed or recommended to achieve a certain result. Although Odd Count Peyote is not difficult, there is an odd little turn around to get your stitching going in the right direction. This turn can sometimes seem a bit intimidating to a new beader (and even the more experienced). Having someone to show you the way of it can be a big help. This class will set you up of any of the other peyote stitch classes offered here this quarter, for example "Free Form". Register early!

TUBULAR HERRINGBONE CHANNEL WITH POWER NODES BRACELET: **PART ONE** - TUBULAR HERRINGBONE CHANNEL, SATURDAY, APRIL 25, 10:30-12:30, W/ ODIN, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: ADVANCED (Skill in hand weaving, herringbone stitch and working with crystals required) **Note: Booking both classes at once is requested** Call me FMI!

NEW! If you are a lover of combining stitches and components (ex: Odin's Netted/Herringbone Transitions Class), then you will love Odin's newest combination. This takes tubular herringbone to another level by adding channels of crystals between the spines and then adding beaded "nodes" in between the section. In the first class "PART 1" we will work on the herringbone/channeled section. You can make a complete bracelet out of just this stitch. For "Part 2" of the bracelet (offered next Saturday, May 2), you will work sections of the herringbone and weave in the bejeweled "nodes". Part 1-First photo of first class finished piece. Second photo of completed bracelet with Power Nodes. Do come in to see these pieces in person. The power nodes bracelet is striking!

CELLINI SPIRAL BRACELET: SATURDAY, APRIL 25, 1-3 P.M., W/ODIN, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE (experience in hand weaving especially peyote stitch recommended)

YOU ASKED FOR IT! When I asked customers what past classes they would like to see reprised, this was a popular choice. The Cellini spiral is a modified version of tubular even count peyote with different size beads creating the spiral. This stitch looks amazingly like Beaded Crochet when using different size beads. You'll have such FUN creating this artistic bracelet and get many compliments on the finished piece. Register early!

WIRE CROCHET: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29, 6-8 P.M., W/LINDA, FEE: $20, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER (with knowledge of crochet chain stitch)

YOU ASKED FOR IT! Crocheting with wire is far simpler than it looks and the results are spectacular. This necklace always gets oohs and aahs. Simple to create and stunning no matter what type of bead you select. Use seed beads, gemstone chips, round, square, large, small or a combination of all of the above to create a truly unique look. The same technique delivers completely different results depending on your choice of beads, and colors. It's such fun to combine beads for incredible results.

TUBULAR HERRINGBONE CHANNEL WITH POWER NODES BRACELET: **PART 2**-"POWER NODES", SATURDAY, MAY 2, 10:30-12:30, W/ODIN, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: ADVANCED (Experience in hand weaving, herringbone and working with crystals recommended) **Note: booking both classes at once is requested.**

NEW! In part two, as explained above, you will herringbone channel sections and connect them with the woven "power nodes". Sounds very space age fantasy, but is very fashion chic! With your previous knowledge of the herringbone channel, you should progress quite far in completing the piece in the class time.

NETTED ROPE: SATURDAY, MAY 2, 1-3 P.M., W/ODIN, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL BEGINNER

YOU ASKED FOR IT! A number of ladies have been asking for a repeat of this simple and elegant rope. It's a piece that is so versatile and works up beautifully and easily in crystal or pearls or gemstones. This piece appears to trap the stones in a beautiful beaded net to encircle your wrist or you can lengthen it into a fabulous necklace. The color combinations are endless as are the number of places you'll want to wear it. Netted rope is easy. So much easier than it looks. If you've ever handled a needle and thread you'll be able to accomplish this. It's a wonderful first venture into hand weaving with beads with stunning results! There has been demand for a repeat of this class, so register early!

BEADER'S NIGHT OUT: WEDNESDAY, MAY 6, 6-8 P.M.: NO FEE

WIREWORKS: BORDER WRAP: SATURDAY, MAY 9, 10:30-12:30, W/ MIG LEMIRE, FEE: $55, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

If you loved the Wire Sculpting class with Mig, you'll love Border Wrap. The second in the WIREWORKS series, this class teaches you how to showcase a cabochon or other flat backed stone by incasing the edges in a neatly bound wire wrap. You'll learn to create exquisite sterling, silver filled or gold filled border wrapped slides and pendants. (They look great in copper, too.) Bring your own stones or pick from our beautiful selections. (This is a standalone class. You do not need to have taken Wire Sculpting to accomplish this technique. This technique will spring board you into many other wire wrapped pieces).

WIREWORKS: SPRING FEVER - CHAINMAILLE: SATURDAY, MAY 9, 1-3 P.M., W/MIG LEMIRE, FEE: $55, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

YOU ASKED FOR IT! Every now and then you see a bracelet that you just have to own. This is one of those. And if you've never tried Chain Maille, you'll be happy to know it is so much easier than it looks. In this piece pretty pearls zig-zag around a beautiful Byzantine Chain. This is one I know that I wear all the time, dress up or jeans. Join Mig and you won't believe how easy it is to create. Byzantine is a Chain Maille staple.

KUMODO BRACELET: WEDNESDAY, MAY 13, 6-8 P.M., W/LINDA, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

NEW! This exquisite stitch makes up into the most beautiful beaded chain. Mixing or changing the beads will give gorgeous variations. It's easy to learn for such and intricate looking stitch. SHAMBALA BRACELET: SATURDAY, MAY 16, NOON -2:30, W/ SUE DAIGLE, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

This will definitely fill fast, so don't wait to reserve your seat!

FREE FORM PEYOTE: WEDNESDAY, MAY 20, 6-8 P.M. W/MARIE JACQUES, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE (Knowledge of even or odd count peyote required)

YOU ASKED FOR IT! This class was such a hit last quarter, we've been asked to have it again. Folks who have taken it previously have been having such fun exploring the endless possibilities for combining seed and novelty beads into unique art jewelry! You've marveled at the seemingly random beauty of Freeform Peyote stitch. How do they do it? Stitching seems to branch off every which way with different size beads interjected everywhere? What may seem random usually does have a plan (of sorts). Marie will show you how to jumpstart your creativity. You'll start with a thin band and build from there. Where will your imagination take you? These are just a sampling of where your imagination may go. Bring all your odd beads and see how to bring them all together beautifully!

PATTERNED PEYOTE: SATURDAY, MAY 23, 10:30-12:30, W/CONNIE FOSTER, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE (KNOWLEDGE OF BASIC PEYOTE SITITCH REQUIRED)

YOU ASKED FOR IT! Folks have been waiting for this beautiful project to come back around again! Now that our snowbirds are winging their way back north (brave souls) we can look forward to some repeat performances (as well as new project coming next quarter). This has been a favorite for a while with the choice of beads really making it uniquely yours! The pattern is created with different size seed beads, or, throw a small crystal substitute in for texture and emphasis! Beautiful no matter how you bead it!

SUPER DUO BUMP: SATURDAY MAY 23, 1-3 P.M., W/CONNIE FOSTER, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE (Knowledge of basic peyote stitch required)

GARDEN NECKLACE: WEDNESDAY, MAY 27, 6-8 P.M., W/LINDA, FEE: $20, SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE (Some hand weaving experience recommended)

Let's get into a mindset for SPRING! As fresh as spring and as pretty as a picture, just seeing this gorgeous choker makes you think of sunshine and flowers. This fabulous piece by Deborah Roberti is as fun to make as it is to wear. Pearls and crystals in a triangular weave extend from a right-angle weave chain. This one fits closer to the throat but you can make it any length you desire. A stunning piece for wedding or prom wear, or just because it makes you feel good! Your choice of colors will make it uniquely yours. I've donated this piece to several auction fundraisers and it is always a hot item. I'm sure it will be in your circle of friends, too.

TWISTED CHANNEL HERRINGBONE: SATURDAY, JUNE 6, 10:30-12:30, W/ODIN, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: ADVANCED (Knowledge of Channel Herringbone required) NEW! Odin has taken the Channeled Herringbone from the two previous months and given it a twist! With the basic stitch under your belt, this will be an interesting deviation to enhance your skill.

SPARKLING GARDEN BRACELET: WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, W/LINDA, FEE: $20, SKILL LEVEL: NOVICE (Hand weaving experience recommended)

This is one of those must have pieces. This beautiful design by Joetta Payne first appeared in the June 2003 Bead & Button magazine. This triangular variation of Right-angle weave is not for the beginning bead weaver, but if you have some hand weaving experience, particularly with right-angle weave, you will do just fine. Those of you who have become fans of Japanese Weaving will love the progression of this bracelet. The photo doesn't do justice to the piece. Do stop in and see it in person. If you are a "crow" like me, you'll just have to have one.

WIREWORKS: BOLLYWOOD BABY: SATURDAY, JUNE 13, 10:30-12:30, W/MIG LEMIRE, FEE: $55, SKILL LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE (Some knowledge of basic wire wrapping recommended)

YOU ASKED FOR IT! We have only offered this class once before a long time ago. The requests have been coming in for a reprisal. So, here you are! These fantastic earrings remind me of the gorgeous bejeweled earring of India! Edge them in crystals or pearls and channel the far east either way!

HAMMERED CUFF BRACELET: SATURDAY, JUNE 13, 1-3 P.M., W/MIG LEMIRE, FEE: $55, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

YOU ASKED FOR IT! Nothing can describe the satisfaction you get pounding on metal. You release all your frustrations and get a great piece of jewelry in the process! Come join us and learn how easy it is to make a beautiful copper cuff and earrings from SCRATCH! That's right. You start with plane, flat sheet metal "blanks" (that's the technical term) and wind up with a fantastic cuff bracelet and earrings to match. You will also learn how to create a patina (antiqued finish) on your pieces. Don't miss out on the most fun you can have with a hammer! Call and reserve your seat. They will be going fast!

DAISY CHAIN: SATURDAY, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17, 6-8 P.M., W/LINDA, FEE: $20, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

The daisy is such a simple, sweet flower. And that is just the way I'd describe this variation on a daisy chain. Vines and flowers are both size 11 seed beads although, you could use any size or colors to change the look and make it truly your own. This is a very easy project for first time hand weavers. But, even the more experienced can have a lot of fun with it. So, if you've wanted to try your hand at working with seed beads, or just want a simple little pattern to stitch, you'll have fun with this one. This is a piece that all women, from granddaughters to grandmothers, will love to own

JAPANESE BRAIDING (KUMIHIMO): SATURDAY, JUNE 20, NOON, W/SUE DAIGLE, FEE: $25, SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

We gave this class a break last quarter and people are clamoring for it again. Don't wait to register. Japanese Braiding or "Kumihimo" is an ancient art form that dates back to around 8000 BC, yet fits into our contemporary society quite well. Meaning a "Gathering of Threads", Kumihimo braids were used as personal adornment such as obi-jime ties, ropes to bind ancient scrolls, and were presented by emperors to heroes and others who earned high honors. Today they lend themselves well to belts, trims, handbag straps and, of course, jewelry. This relaxing form of beaded braiding works up quite quickly and makes beautiful, affordable and very unique gifts. This class always fill quickly so reserve your seat early. Ask for a materials list as a small amount of prep work is necessary prior to the class.

JEWEL OF INDIA BRACELET: THURSDAY, JUNE 24TH, 6-8 P.M., W/LINDA, FEE: $25

YOU ASKED FOR IT! I have been in love with these hand woven herringbone stitch bracelets since I began beading. Many people seeing them here in the shop have asked about classes. I finally tracked down Kathleen Kimball-Baker, the designer of these soft supple ribbons of beads, and she graciously gave me her permission to teach them. First seen in the Oct/Nov 2004 Beadwork magazine they were so popular, everyone I knew who beaded, knew about them. They are a perfect summer (or anytime) casual bracelet to wear with light, colorful clothes and jeans. Don't wait any longer, reserve your seat today!
